You may choose to make your own beer for a variety of reasons. It is fun. It does taste better than store bought beer once you’ve perfected your brew. It adds a personal touch to family gathering and special events. But is it cheaper to make your own beer?

This depends on a number of factors. First, if you are just starting to make your own beer, you will have to purchase ingredients and equipment. This means that if you are comparing the cost of purchasing beer, as opposed to the cost when you make your own beer, based on the price of the initial ingredients and equipment, then it is not cheaper to make your own beer.

However, once the supplies are purchased, it actually is cheaper to make your own beer, in most cases. Some recipes call for special ingredients that may make your recipe more expensive than it would be to go to the store for a six pack of beer. However, when you make your own beer, you are literally making about five gallons of beer and not just a six pack at a time. That’s a lot of beer.

The more exotic the beer is when you make your own beer the more it will cost to make the beer, due to the cost of the ingredients. If you plan to make your own beer often, and stop buying beer from the store altogether, you should plan to buy your ingredients in bulk, as in the long run, this is always cheaper.

You need to shop carefully for the needed ingredients when you get ready to make your own beer. Use the Internet, and read reviews from other home brewers concerning the ingredients that you choose. The cost of the ingredients matter, of course, but quality and taste should matter the most. Read information about different brands of ingredients that other brewers have tried as well when you get ready to buy ingredients to make your own beer.

It does not have to be expensive to make your own beer. You can cut the costs by reusing bottles, buying ingredients in bulk, and using brewing supplies that you already have in your kitchen. Also, compare the costs of like ingredients as well using the Internet, and compare the costs of purchasing the ingredients separately to the cost of purchasing beer kits, which contain all of the ingredients that you need, as well.
